Feature: The Glastonbury Demographic

“He (Jay-Z) will appeal to the young people and under-25s for sure, so that’s a big pull for them. It’s not like the traditional one we do, like Radiohead, Coldplay and Muse and Oasis.”

The above quote was from the mouth of Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis, when he announced the controversial booking of rapper Jay-Z for last year’s festival. His booking was made not just for breaking with tradition but to also pull in the youth demographic after being criticised in 2007 for not offering much for the kids. Despite not selling out until the last minute, his performance was a huge success and the gamble has somewhat paid off when 90% of all tickets for this year’s festival have sold out, proving that there is still high demand for the Somerset bash.
